Myth & Movement #1

In fairytale, myth and story, we catch glimpses of our own wild nature. In movement, we capture our primal essence. In this new series of workshops - working with a combination of mind and matter - we can feel stories deeply in the body, and allow wildness into our minds.

Through a flowing vinyasa yoga practice combined with active storytelling, we will dance through myth and movement, reclaiming intuition and weaving our own personal stories into the collective story. After an intensive workout for body and mind, we will end with the deep guided healing rest of yoga nidra.

In this first workshop of the series, we will step into the shoes of Vasilisa, heroine of ancient Slavic folklore, moving with intention and purpose through the nine stages of her story as explored by Jungian psychoanalyst and storyteller Clarissa Pinkola-Estes in her groundbreaking book "Women Who Run With The Wolves".

Bookings essential, as there is limited space within the studio!

Interactive Fiction Workshop

Very exciting workshop for me at Big Smoke Writing Factory! It is a great honour for me to get to teach there, as Maggie and Claire were my first writing teachers, so this means a lot to me.

Learn how to create and publish your own interactive fiction online using Twine. In this one-day course you will learn the building blocks of tools, story, choice, and aesthetics. The aim of this course is to give you everything you need to take the seed of an idea to a published (and polished) piece of interactive fiction. Participants must bring their own laptop (and charger!) along for the day. Themes and writing exercises will be sent via email in advance of the course to nurture idea generation.

Booking open now, what are you waiting for?!

Giving a talk entitled "Arcane Play: Occult Influences In Games ... & Vice Versa"; time and location TBD.

Exploring the influence of the occult on modern games, and how we can apply playful techniques from the world of magick to our ideas and our games. Rooting firmly in real examples, quick-hit inspiration and practical techniques, we'll start by looking at a showcase of games that use occult themes and end up wandering through such concepts as alchemy, reality selection, neuro-linguistic programming, chaos magick, and tarot. At the end, every attendee will leave with at least one gotta-do-it-now idea liberated from their own subconscious.

Disclaimer: This talk will be weird

Playful Arts Festival

I'm thrilled that my weird talk on "playful occulture" has been accepted for the Playful Arts Festival in Den Bosch, The Netherlands! It will be exploring the application of esoteric and practical philosophy techniques on playful culture. Rooting firmly in quick-hit inspiration and practical techniques, we'll wander through such concepts as alchemy, reality selection, neuro-linguistic programming, chaos magick, and tarot. The works of such esoteric writers as Aleister Crowley, Robert Anton Wilson and Phil Hine will be remixed and applied to playful culture to present a snapshot of words/images/ideas specifically designed to kickstart individualistic play creation.
